The quality varies of course, and my notebook is peppered with curious phrases like “not all birds have hollow bones “, “I was born inside a drum” and one of my favourites “is that inflatable?”. One of these wondrous statements has made it into a poem. I’ll let you ponder which.
So yes, there are moments when inspiration strikes. There are also moments when simply sitting down, checking what I’ve put in my planner and getting to work make things happen. These days work remarkably well for me. I find a schedule pleasing and respond well to a list (so long as I have made it!)
Today saw me write a poem about laundry, for what I think is the penultimate week of Magnificent Apparel. I built it from notes made over the weekend and I fear I may have “tweaked” a little too much. Redrafting will happen tomorrow morning – I’m hopeful a clear head will pay dividends.
The rest of my day (in between actual laundry, food prep and cat wrangling) was spent on the ninth poetry film from Dust. I’ve been putting this one off – partly because I wasn’t sure how to make it, and partly because, like the rest of this series of poetry films, it takes me to a place I don’t really want to go back to.
It’s important to me to finish these though. I had a stroke of inspiration over the weekend about how I could make this particular piece happen and I’m pleased with the results. I’ll do one final check tomorrow morning, and hopefully publish tomorrow afternoon. Keep an eye out!
So there we are. A good, creative day. I feel energised. I’m also batting away the voice that wonders what the point of all this is. If I listened to that I’d never do anything. Other than laundry.
Until next time
Kathryn

A beautiful update. Enjoyed the word ‘scurry’ - what a good word that is. And the birds bones. Of course the birds bones xx
