As an editor of an academic journal, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate authors who follow the guidelines. So much of my time is often spent correcting the formatting.
I can believe it! I've always followed the guidelines (I like things just so) but I've been privy to several discussions where the overriding feeling is that it's just fussiness. I think people find the whole process quite intimidating (not to mention how scary it can feel sending work off) so they don't stop to see the person and the reason behind the rules.

To be honest I'm beginning to wish that wasn't true! I e just had my pamphlet turned down so am in a proper gloom. Seed sowing tomorrow though which will soothe me 😊
