That sounds delightful! Iā€™d love to make my own book.

For the next topic, hmm, Iā€™d like both of those please šŸ˜‚ forest bathing and travelling cheap in Japan!

Oh the lure of making books ! One course about 15 years ago was enough to entirely hook me .. and Iā€™m still making them and exploring their possibilities now. I absolutely recognised that joy in making youā€™ve expressed beautifully !

Thank you Sarah - I think I need to make a concrete plan to get on with actually making some! I've felt a pull this year away from pure writing towards wanting more physical creativity and book making seems ideal. Where / how did you start?

I did some bookbinding as part of a degree course and then some workshops at a lovely independent printmaking studio - Hot Bed Press in Stockport. Once youā€™ve got the basics of some structures though thereā€™s so much scope ā€¦ and I love it because the raw materials are pretty cheap so making lots of mistakes isnā€™t expensive ! I highly recommend a Teflon bonefolder by the way - really helps with the whole glue getting everywhere problem ! Thereā€™s a lovely book by Rachell Hazel (aka the travelling bookbinder) called ā€˜Boundā€™ which is one of the most inspiring guides.
